History
What began as a group of High Street
singers who sang Christmas carols around town has evolved
into the Charlestown Chorale, a group of 20+ singers who
live in Charlestown and surrounding communities. The
Chorale, now in its seventh season, performs classical,
sacred and secular works
and offers at least two free concerts per year, at the
U.S.S. Constitution Museum and public sites in
the City of Boston, celebrating events such as Memorial
Day and Flag Day and the winter seasonal holidays.
Mission
The Charlestown Chorale, under the
direction of Christina Wilhelm, is a non-profit
community-based group of singers who perform special
programs for important occasions and celebrations
throughout the year. These programs
are inspired by the needs of the community
which regularly celebrates special
events throughout the year, such as Bunker Hill Day, the
birthday of the U.S.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides),
commemorative events and other public holidays.
Director
Christina Wilhelm is the musical
director and the conductor of the Chorale. Christina has
an extensive academic and professional background in
music, education and theology. She has a Bachelor's Degree
in Piano Performance from Rutgers University, a Master's
degree in Education and Pastoral Ministry from Emmanuel
College, and has recently been appointed Justice of the
Peace for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Christina is
also the Director of the Santa Cruz Singers in Patagonia,
Arizona, where she and her husband are part-time
residents.
