ABOUT 1:18 PM ON TUESDAY, 06/23/2009, OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A CALL FOR BREAKING & ENTERING IN PROGRESS IN THE VICINITY OF ST. MARTIN STREET, CHARLESTOWN. OFFICERS SPOKE WITH VICTIM WHO STATED THAT SOMEONE KNOCKED ON HIS DOOR CLAIMING TO BE FROM THE WATER COMPANY. VICTIM SAID THE SUSPECT STATED THAT THEY WERE WORKING IN A HOLE IN THE AREA AND THE INSPECTOR SHUT THEM DOWN. SUSPECT CLAIMED THAT HE HAD TO CHECK THE VICTIM’S WATER TO MAKE SURE IT WAS WORKING. VICTIM SAID HE LET HIM IN AND THEY WENT INTO THE KITCHEN WHERE THE VICTIM TURNED THE WATER ON IN HIS SINK. VICTIM STATED HE TURNED ON HIS WATER AND IT WAS FINE. VICTIM STATED TO OFFICERS THAT THE SUSPECT WAS TRYING TO BLOCK HIS VIEW FROM LOOKING IN THE OTHER ROOM. AT THIS POINT VICTIM STATED HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE COME FROM UPSTAIRS AT WHICH POINT HE TOLD THE SUSPECT TO LEAVE. SUSPECT CONTINUED TO BLOCK THE VICTIM’S WAY AND THE VICTIM PUSHED THE SUSPECT TOWARDS THE DOOR AND TOLD HIM TO LEAVE MULTIPLE TIMES. FINALLY SUSPECT LEFT THE HOUSE TAKING A LEFT ON MEDFORD STREET. AT THIS POINT VICTIM WENT BACK INTO THE HOUSE AND UPSTAIRS TO NOTICE A FEW OF HIS BELONGINGS THROWN ABOUT THE ROOM. VICTIM NOTICED FOUR SEPARATE BOXES, CONTAINING GOLD COINS, AND ONE SILVER BOX OF COINS WORTH UNKNOWN, ALL WERE MISSING. VICTIM STATED THAT THE SUSPECT HAD SOME SORT OF AN ACCENT, MAYBE GREEK. SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MALE, APPROXIMATELY 30 YEARS OF AGE, 6'1" HEIGHT, 180 LBS., WEARING A BLUE BASEBALL HAT, BLACK JACKET WITH WHITE SLASH, BLUE JEANS, AND AN EARING IN LEFT EAR. VICTIM STATED HE DIDN’T SEE ANYONE ELSE WITH THE SUSPECT, BUT STATED TO OFFICERS THERE HAD TO BE SOMEONE ELSE.
This is just a glimpse of what is to come. Right now it is temporary due to the Alford Street Bridge repairs but the Rutherford Ave/Sullivan Sq. meeting at the KofC last Thursday depicts this very scenario. They plan to take out the underpass near city square and move all traffic to the surface and then cut the road down to just 2 lanes on each side all the way to Sullivan Square. The concept is to drive the traffic away from the town (which would be wonderful)...except if you noticed as I did, while sitting in the traffic last night - Route93north on the expressway was visibly jammed up as well. Not only could I not get down Main Street, I could not even think about going back out until after 7:00pm when the traffic died down.
It was madness.
What is going to be done about getting commuters to not travel on Main Street, Bunker Hill Street and Medford Street with the underpass closed. Last evening was a disaster in terms of the congestion the underpass caused in the neighborhood.
Being a history & political buff, I am very upset OldSchoolBoy with the attacks....and I'm upset my State Senator did not speak on the Senate chamber about this and instead the Senator from South Boston had to defend this....the Rep. did the right thing and the City Councillor in a ceremonial way also did the right thing....
I have not read or heard of such, but I am not too surprised. The parade seems shorter and shorter each year - we should be ready to fight to keep our parade, and not worry about the holiday so much. I can deal with no holiday. I cannot imagine no parade. Just something to keep in the back of your mind.
This keeps adding fuel to the fire.
