Background
The Charlestown Sprouts is a non-profit
organization originally created in 1997 for the sake of
children by our founder and benefactor Oren McCleary.
Presently we serve over 70 families and their children,
who grow vegetables and enjoy the outdoor space. Many come
from the Boston Housing Authority projects nearby to gain
a garden of their own. We occupy a lovely site at the head
of the Little Mystic Canal behind the Charlestown High
School (49 Terminal Street) where there is almost always a
breeze blowing.
There is a sign up for plots in April or
May, a garden party in summer, and the garden closes by
the end of September. The Sprouts Garden has support from
Boston Natural Area Networks and the City of Boston.
